It was completely dark. Sans was drifting lazily on the still air of the empty Void, unmoving. He was completely alone, floating through a vast landscape of nothingness.

The skeleton suddenly opened his eyes, as if he had just awoken from a bad dream. He was breathing rather heavily, unsure of his surroundings.

As Sans scanned the bleak desolation for signs of life, he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye socket.

Papyrus. He was unconscious.

Sans glided over to his brother, reaching out to the taller skeleton as far as his arms could extend. He had to get to Papyrus.

Once he finally made it to his younger sibling, Sans grasped Papyrus’ limp body, and pulled him close.

But when Sans looked up, he saw the face of someone from his past. A shadowy figure he knew all too well.

Dr. W.D. Gaster. Avg disk defrag hardisk ps2.

Sans didn’t know why the former Royal Scientist was here, or even where ‘here’ was. Whatever the reason, he knew it didn’t mean well.

Gaster wore a grim smile on his face. In his hands was what appeared to be a mirror, and in the reflection, was Sans’ petrified expression.

Then, without warning, Gaster’s sinister leer morphed into many different appearances. Curiosity, desire, reminiscence, even penitence.

Before Sans could question the scientist’s manifestations, a blinding light emerged from the never-ending blackness, causing the skeleton to shield his eyes from the illumination.

When he reopened his eyes, both Papyrus and Gaster had disappeared.

Suddenly, Sans’ head began to spin. He felt as if an outside force was invading his mind, desperately trying to gain control of the skeleton’s thoughts.

Sans tried with all his strength to pull away, to escape the intruder’s clutches on his SOUL.

Slowly, the two beings separated. Even though the opposing force kept its grip on Sans’ conscience, Sans fought for domination of his body.

The assailant, who proved to be Gaster himself, stood before Sans, with a look of desire on his strangely amused face. The scientist gradually extended his hand to the skeleton, who was now suspicious of his movements.

At that moment, Sans realized Gaster’s intentions. He smacked the skeletal hand away, and bolted from the former Royal Scientist, frantically searching for a way to escape this realm of nightmares.

All of a sudden, a hand sprung up from the oblivion and grabbed Sans’ ankle, dragging him deeper into the Void.

Sans tried to pull away, but the hand kept its hold on the skeleton. He slowly drifted into a deep sleep as he was plunged into the darkness.

As he plummeted deeper within the endless blackness, Sans drifted in and out of consciousness, struggling to keep his SOUL protected from the cunning scientist’s grasp.

But it wasn’t enough; Gaster once again seized the skeleton’s mind, his face transforming into the sinister grin of the CORE’s creator.

Sans felt his weak SOUL begin to crack, the painful tremors shooting throughout his body.

The skeleton was just about to accept his fate and allow the former Royal Scientist take control of his thoughts, when he suddenly felt a burning feeling deep inside of him telling him not to give up just yet.

And he listened.

Sans fought for control of his body, but Gaster wasn’t eager to loosen his grasp on the skeleton’s SOUL. He fired several ribbon-like attacks at Sans, and in return Sans dodged every one, his left eye glowing brightly with magic.

The big-boned skeleton fired a bone at the scientist, which an amused Gaster easily dodged, and sneered. Sans then summoned a legion of bones, and with a wave of his arm, sent them gliding towards his opponent.

The bones had no effect on the scientist. They travelled directly through Gaster, as if he wasn’t even there.

Gaster retaliated with an attack of his own; a phantom that resembled himself. As the specter drew closer to Sans, he constructed a barrier of bones to shield himself from the assault, but was instead launched several meters away by the attack.

The burning feeling in Sans’ SOUL grew stronger. The skeleton slowly and painfully picked himself up, and struck back at Gaster, which proved to be futile.

Gaster sent another specter towards Sans, this time severely damaging his SOUL. Sans knew he had lost.

The scientist picked Sans up by the hood of his jacket, holding the skeleton’s chin in his hand, and peering into his dark eyes, as if he was celebrating his victory.

As Sans lay on the ground, his SOUL weak from battle, a familiar hand reached down to him. He looked up, and saw the smiling face of his younger brother.

Tears of joy streamed down the older brother’s face, knowing that Papyrus had not been harmed by the malevolent Royal Scientist.

Deep in Sans’ SOUL, the blazing feeling returned, and so did his strength.

Papyrus stood behind his brother, ready for combat. Soon after, the rest of his friends appeared, also prepared to help defeat Gaster.

With his friends surrounding him, Sans was more resolute than ever to conquest his assailant. As his left eye glowed bright blue and yellow with magic, the skeleton summoned a small group of Gaster Blasters, and fired them at the amused scientist, who grinned slyly at the sight of the weapons.

The attack succeeded, causing Gaster to lower his guard. Sans then teleported to the scientist, using his telekinesis abilities to further damage Gaster’s physical form.

But when Sans was on the verge of completely destroying the scientist, Gaster used his magic to throw Sans to the ground.

Sans quickly got back up, and utilized his teleportation powers to his advantage.

His SOUL was now stronger than it had ever been before.

Sans was filled with DETERMINATION.

An amused Gaster sneered at the skeleton, and created yet another phantom to attack Sans.

But Sans was prepared. He easily endured the attack, but the skeleton quickly became exhausted, his energy slipping away like sand in an hourglass.

He was nearly about to give up, when the burning feeling in his SOUL once again returned, forcing him not to give up.

Sans’ left eye glowed brilliantly with powerful magic, and Gaster began to slowly fade away.

A blinding light emerged from the shadows of the Void.

Sans woke with a start. He was in Snowdin forest, sitting against a tree. Deep in his SOUL, Sans felt a slight tingling sensation, and his left hand felt… strange.

The skeleton gazed at his hand, and there, in the center of his palm, was a faint, circular mark.

Was it really a dream after all?
